Chiefs Were Never Close To Deal For Gonzalez

Aug 5, 2014 11:30 PM

A return to the Kansas City Chiefs was widely rumored for Tony Gonzalez, but a trade never came close to reality.

The Atlanta Falcons are virtually out of playoff contention, but a low-round draft pick for Gonzalez wouldn't have been worth it in leaving Matt Ryan without another reliable receiver.

Gonzalez plans on retiring at the end of the season.

Chip Kelly Against Tanking Strategy For Eagles

Oct 31, 2014 9:19 PM

Chip Kelly has heard suggestions that the Philadelphia Eagles could be better off losing games over the remainder of the season in an effort to have a higher draft pick.

"We're all about winning games," Kelly said Wednesday. "If we start planning long term, I might not be here long term."

The Philadelphia 76ers are essentially conceding the 13-14 NBA season in order to have a high draft pick.

"It doesn't come in," Kelly said. "It's about beating Oakland. That's it. It's a one-week season, and that's all there is. Last week, it was beating the Giants. There wasn't, 'Hey, what are we going to be like next year, let's active G.J. (Kinne, the practice squad quarterback) and throw him into the mix.' That's not our mentality."

Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III have quickly improved their respective teams, though the Seattle Seahawks drafted Russell Wilson in the third round and Colin Kaepernick was a second round pick in 2011 by the San Francisco 49ers.

Vikings Discussing Jared Allen Trade

Jun 1, 2014 6:05 AM

The Minnesota Vikings are discussing a Jared Allen trade with several teams, but talks have not been substantive.

The Vikings are virtually out of playoff contention.

A trade of Allen would be difficult given his salary.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Seattle Seahawks were in discussions on Allen, but have decided not to actively pursue him.

Kenny Britt Would Welcome Trade From Titans

May 29, 2014 5:41 PM

Kenny Britt is open to a trade from the Tennessee Titans and his value across the NFL is low.

"It would be great to stay, as long as they're giving me opportunities that I should get, especially since I've been working hard and doing the right things out there," Britt told reporters Monday, per The Tennessean. "Going somewhere else and having a fresh start, it would be good also. But where my mind is right now is just probably staying here because everything is here -- my family is here and stuff like that."

Gonzalez Open To Trade, Falcons Uninterested

Nov 11, 2014 3:45 PM

Tony Gonzalez is open to a trade from the Atlanta Falcons, but the team has no interest in dealing him.

"Everybody out there needs to understand that I'm not naive to it," Gonzalez told ESPN.com. "I see it, too. This is the last (nine) weeks of my career. And right now, things are looking ... you never know.

"But, like I said, I love my guys on this team too much to go ask for a trade. It would be something that would come from them where they said, 'Hey, it makes sense because we could get something good for you and send you to a team that's a contender.' So I understand the thought process behind that."

The Falcons have a 2-5 record and are without Julio Jones for the rest of the season.

Cardinals Deny Talking Larry Fitzgerald Trade

Sep 3, 2014 8:54 PM

Larry Fitzgerald was asked to address trade rumors after the Arizona Cardinals' win on Sunday over the Atlanta Falcons.

The Cardinals are 4-4 behind a strong defense.

"I don't know," Fitzgerald said when asked if the trade reports were out of line. "I come to work every day and just focus on how I can help the Arizona Cardinals and help my team win. If they decide to move me, that happens. I have no control over any of that.

"I just focus on what I can do to improve and help my team."

The Cardinals insist they haven't even considering trading Fitzgerald.

"I have not had one conversation regarding a trade with Larry Fitzgerald," general manager Steve Keim told 620 AM in Arizona. "We have every intent to have Larry Fitzgerald retire as a Cardinal. Period."
